Standing Passengers: Big Changes Await as Planes Approach Terminals

Travellers bound for Turkey might face fines if they rise from their seats before the aircraft reaches the terminal building.

It’s common to see travelers unfastening their seatbelts and grabbing items from the overhead compartments before the aircraft has fully stopped, all in an effort to get ahead of customs lines.

However, the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority has implemented a new regulation, indicating that travelers eager for a swift departure might face a fine of £60.

Through penalizing passengers who try to rush off as soon as the plane starts moving, the aim of this new legislation is to reduce the need for cabin crew to continually remind individuals to remain seated.

The updated regulations mandate that all passengers must remain seated even once the seatbelt sign has turned off, continuing until they reach their exit row for deplaning. Times reported.

According to a Reddit discussion on the topic, fliers habitually get up before the seat belt sign has chimed and stand in the aisle for several reasons including a desire to stretch their legs and to be ready to disembark the moment the doors are opened.

However, some travelers get annoyed when people stand up before there's room to move because it obstructs the aisle and stops them from accessing their carry-on bags.

Turkey’s Civil Aviation Authority stated: “As per the regulations, airlines must ensure passengers are reminded to fasten their seat belts throughout and following the landing process up till they arrive at the parking position. They should also clearly inform passengers that any violation of this rule will result in reporting to the aviation authorities and may lead to fines.”

Travel firm On The Beach reported that Turkey has moved ahead of Spain to claim the top spot as the preferred vacation getaway for British travelers.

The country has also become known for its competitively priced cosmetic treatments and hair transplants.

Its flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, flies to more countries than any other airline worldwide and a total of 322 destinations.
